Safety Across Settings: Preparation for Emergencies for Children and Adults with Special Needs

Parent Training Series

For individuals with special developmental needs, emergencies such as fires, floods, and acts of terrorism present a real challenge. Protecting yourself and your family when disaster strikes requires planning ahead. This family-friendly training will help you get started. In particular, we’ll focus on:

  • Developing a safety plan for use in the home, school, and community
  • Working with your child’s school team to implement a well-designed safety plan
  • Strategies to prepare for a disaster
  • Practicing for emergencies
  • What to include in a DIY emergency kit
  • How to prepare for the unexpected
  • How to minimize anxiety
